Public-Safety Dual-Band Night Vision: Pairing a White Phosphor PVS-14 with a Handheld Thermal
Public-safety teams often need to accomplish two different jobs at night: detect a person or heat source quickly, then move safely and understand the surrounding scene. Thermal imaging and image-intensified night vision solve different parts of that problem.
A compact thermal monocular can help an officer, deputy, firefighter or search-and-rescue team locate heat signatures in darkness, brush and certain visually challenging conditions. A Gen 3 white phosphor PVS-14 uses available light to provide a more natural view of terrain, structures, vehicles and other environmental details.

Thermal is valuable for detection
Thermal imaging detects temperature differences rather than visible light. That makes it useful for rapidly scanning for people, animals, recently operated equipment and other heat sources when conventional illumination is limited.

The PVS-14 supports movement and scene awareness
A PVS-14 amplifies available light and can provide the environmental detail needed to move through terrain, recognize obstacles, read the shape of a scene and operate around vehicles or structures. The built-in infrared illuminator can assist with close work when operationally appropriate.
White phosphor is widely preferred by many professional users for its grayscale presentation, but performance ultimately depends on tube specifications, lighting conditions and the individual operator. The thermal can also be paired with a green phosphor PVS-14. If your department already has green phosphor night vision in service, the IC|D-14 bridge and the appropriate thermal adapter can add thermal detection capability without requiring you to replace your existing PVS-14s.

A Modular System Can Be Easier to Field and Maintain
A dual-band PVS-14 and thermal setup gives an agency two independent optical devices with separate power supplies. Either monocular can be used on its own, and one device can remain operational if the other is removed for service. The IC|D-14 can also be reconfigured as needs and equipment change.
